The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova

Overview
The book is presented as an unnamed first-person account written in the year 2008. Ms. Kostova's explanation of the nameless narrator is a "literary experiment." The narrator is a historian whose father, Paul, unwittingly ended up searching for the vampiric Vlad Ţepeş. Although the narrator's adventures take place in 1972, there are three distinct storylines narrated at once:
The narrator's actions in 1972 when she, at the age of sixteen, traveled through France with an undergraduate from Oxford, Stephen Barley.
Paul's travels during the 1950s, when as a graduate student he traveled (initially) to Istanbul in search of his kidnapped professor, Bartholomew Rossi.
Bartholomew Rossi's own travels in Eastern Europe during 1930.
Much of the story is told through letters, excerpts from books and academic literature, and above all, the narrator's reconstructions of stories told to her by her father. Details of the plot and of Dracula's nature, motives, and history are slowly revealed
The book has numerous settings all across Europe, which are complicated by Cold War tensions after World War II, when much of the action occurs.

Zodiaco - Caranguejo

-
According to astrologers, Cancerians are strongly protective of those they love, and also exhibit highly developed imagination, discipline, and intuition. Cancerians typically have a moody demeanor that correlates with the different stages of their ruling celestial body, the moon.
-
Because the Moon’s domain is the night, many Cancerians are night owls. You may feel most creative when the twilight hours begin. You feel at home in the evening and this is due to your strong affinity with the vibrations of the Lunar energies. Writing, meditating, contemplating or taking leisurely strolls under the Moonlight will energise you.
-
You are for the most part a person of feeling and sensation and this means your experience of life is very much coloured by your sentiment. Often you will ignore your own better rational processes in favour of how you feel rather than what you think about a situation or someone. Obviously that is why others turn to you when they need a shoulder to cry on and why you also would do well in any of the caring professions.
-
You are extremely receptive to your environment and the people around you and will often “pick up” their energies, moods and possibly even thoughts. This ability serves you well; your intuition about peoples’ intentions is quite often correct. Your knack of knowing their issues before they even open their mouths attracts them to your natural and helpful style.
-
As the Moon rules you, you reflect the qualities of this changing Lunar body. At times your emotions get the better of you and you swing from high to low. Family members and friends will be well aware of your moody nature. Those who know you, however, have no doubt about your loyal and supportive nature.

Blade Runner 25th anniversary

Blade Runner Final Cut is Coming
Source: Warner Home Video
May 26, 2006

Warner Home Video (WHV) announced today that it has acquired worldwide rights to Ridley Scott's Blade Runner and plans two new DVD releases of the futuristic classic. Rights had lapsed a year ago, but negotiations for a long-term license have now been completed, and the film will again be available to the public.

First, a restored and remastered DVD version of the 1992 Director's Cut will debut in September in the U.S. for a special four-month limited release, after which it will be placed on moratorium by WHV.

Later in 2007, to celebrate the film's 25th anniversary, the studio will unveil "Blade Runner: The Final Cut," Scott's definitive new version of his science-fiction masterpiece. The film will be released theatrically in select major U.S. cities, followed by a multi-disc Special Edition DVD release which will also contain three alternate versions of Blade Runner: the Original U.S. Theatrical Cut, the Expanded International Theatrical Cut and the 1992 Director's Cut. Ample, ground-breaking bonus features will also be included.

In making the announcement, Jeff Baker, WHV's Senior VP and General Manager, Theatrical Catalog, said: "This is clearly Ridley's signature film and we are thrilled to have it back. While details of the new DVDs will be announced later, we wanted to get this great news to the many serious film buffs and ardent 'Blade Runner' fans who've been so patient, despite besieging us with thousands of annual requests in recent years for new 'Blade Runner' DVDs.

"Continued Baker, "A number of people have told me that in the start-up days of DVD, 'Blade Runner' was absolutely the first DVD title they wanted, so much so that they purchased it even before their first DVD player! I guarantee these fans our new DVDs will be well worth waiting for."

Blade Runner -- starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos and Daryl Hannah -- made its first appearance in U.S. theaters on June 25, 1982, dazzling audiences with its stylish, brooding look into the future. From its intelligent, provocative story line to its stunning camera work and state-of-the-art special effects, Blade Runner opened the door to a new view of tomorrow.

Set in a multi-ethnic, overcrowded, high-tech city of the future, Blade Runner was also a benchmark in production design and helped propel the "cyberpunk" look into mainstream American consciousness.

GeeXboX

* MPEG 1/2 movies (MPG files, VCDs, DVDs ...)
* MPEG 4 movies (DivX, XviD, H.264 ...)
* RealMedia and Windows Media movies.
* OggMedia streams
* Matroska streams
* Audio streams like : MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, WAV (AudioCD), AC3, MusePack (MPC), FLAC ...
* Network streams : WebRadio and WebTV through SHOUTcast.
* Watching analog TV and digital DVB
* Playing analog Radio streams.
* Playing files from your local network (LAN) through remote NFS, Samba (i.e. Windows) or UPnP shares.
* Recording TV streams while watching them and performing Time-Shifting (live pause).

The Gathering - 2006 - Memorável...
